USBA Announcement By the Front Office

Effective immediately, the United States Basketball Association now announces its inaugural 2010 basketball season. The league is alive and well and our future looks extremely bright. We have had a multitude of challenges that placed us in a position to reassess continuing the 2009 season. We now have three divisions with 18 teams in 10 southern states and the District of Columbia. (www.usbaball.com/teams).

I will be addressing all remaining questions in the weeks to come. In order to provide our cities with a quality product, we will maintain the utmost appearance of integrity.

I believe we have been ostracized by the actions of other teams and leagues. Savannah, Nashville, Jacksonville, Charleston, West Virginia, Augusta, Birmingham and Atlanta have had other teams and leagues that have left negative impressions on the cities, subsequently the press corps used this as an excuse to fail to effectively cover our teams, with the exception of Montgomery, Alabama. These incidents range from the president and chief operations officer of the ABA, whose team is based in Atlanta, being arrested and jailed for stealing $200,000.00 from his partners in an attempt to defraud the NBADL, to the owner of the ABA team in Charleston, West Virginia being arrested, tried and convicted of selling two pounds of marijuana to under cover police. A PBL team in Augusta was accused of a multitude of offenses, they were constantly in the newspaper concerning alleged negative behavior. The owner of an ABA team in Nashville being accused of swindling an investor out of $59,000.00. These three incidents are a matter of court record and were committed within the last 6 months. There are a multitude of additional incidents that involve this type of behavior in a number of our team cities. I must allow the distance of time, to shield the USBA from these incidents and the perpetrators that were accused of committed the offenses. The USBA does not have any association with any other team or league. It is unfortunate that we have to undertake these drastic measures to cancel the 2009 season.

We also are going to introduce our marketing production in each of our cities, starting August 15, 2009. Each city will have Pocket Money Direct Mail Advertising Guide in each team town. Pocket Money was created to be our primary source of advertising. We are now hiring salespeople for each city. Each team will have a Vice President/Sales and Advertising in place in by July 5, 2009. We will begin sales and production on August 15, 2009. The VP of Sales will assist the team in marketing, media relations and community relations. Pocket Money will be mailed quarterly to single-family homes in each team city beginning January 2010. The 2010 Season Ticket Extravaganza will begin on October 1, 2009. We have retained Lincoln Mercury, Trek Bicycle and the rest of our sponsors and vendors. We have applications for membership in all local Chamber of Commerce in each of our team cities. All memberships will be in effect prior to October 1, 2009.

Mr. Kenneth Green, Mr. David Bell and Mr.Simmie Lavender were consulted in regards to my decision. All of our venues have given me permission to re-apply to use their facilities in 2010 with the exception of Montgomery (we, will not be using a High School gymnasium). We will begin the 2010 basketball season on Wednesday April 7, 2010. Each team will play a thirty game schedule. The All Star Game has been reinstated. We will be following the original format.

I will be speaking to each of you as to your future involvement with the United States Basketball Association. We will compensate all USBA Independent Contractors for their efforts during the 2009 pre-season. I will address this subject with each person individually. All players who paid the $75.00 fee for tryouts are due a refund. I need all applicable forms from all coaches to process payment to these young men.
If you have any questions or comments, Please feel free to relay them to Duane Allen Jenkins at (770) 837-3001 or e-mail duanejenkins@usbaball.com or Kenneth Green, Vice President/Basketball Operations. You can reach Mr. Green at kennethgreen@usbaball.com or at (404) 547-6907.
In the Highest Regards, I Am,
Very Truly Yours,

These incidents range from the president and chief operations officer of the ABA, whose team is based in Atlanta, being arrested and jailed for stealing $300,000.00 from his partners in an attempt to defraud the NBADL, to the owner of the ABA team in Charleston, West Virginia being arrested, tried and convicted of selling two pounds of marijuana to under cover police. A PBL team in Augusta was accused of a multitude of offenses, they were constantly in the newspaper concerning alleged negative behavior. The owner of an ABA team in Nashville is being accused of swindling an investor out of $59,000.00. These four incidents are a matter of public or court record and were committed within the last 6 months.

Each team will have a Regional Sales Manager in place in by July 5, 2009. We will begin sales and production on August 15, 2009. The Regional Sales Manager will be in charge of the the teams marketing department, media relations and community relations. Pocket Money will be mailed to homeowners in each team city beginning January 2010.

All of our venues have given me permission to use their facilities in 2010 with the exception of Montgomery (we, will not be using a High School gymnasium). We will begin the 2010 basketball season on Wednesday April 7, 2010. We will play a thirty game schedule.

If you have any questions or comments, Please feel free to relay them to Duane Allen Jenkins or Kenneth Green, Vice President/Basketball Operations. You can reach Mr. Green at kennethgreen@usbaball.com or at (404) 547-6907.

In the Highest Regards, I Am,

United States Basketball Association Addresses Future Plans

Effective immediately, the United States Basketball Association will postpone its inaugural season until 2010. The league is alive and well and our future looks extremely bright. We have had a multitude of challenges that placed us in a position to reassess continuing the 2009 season. We now have teams in 9 southern states and the District of Columbia. (www.usbaball.com/teams) .

I will be addressing all remaining questions with each of you during the remainder of this week. In order to provide our cities with a quality product, we will maintain the utmost appearance of integrity.

I believe we have been ostracized by the actions of other leagues. Savannah, Nashville, Jacksonville, Charleston, West Virginia, Augusta, Birmingham and Atlanta have had other teams and leagues that have left negative impressions on the cities, subsequently the press corps used this as an excuse to fail to effectively cover our teams. A PBL team in Augusta was accused of a multitude of offenses; they were constantly in the newspaper concerning alleged negative behavior. These three incidents are a matter of court record and were committed within the last 6 months. I must allow the distance of time, to shield the USBA from these incidents and the perpetrators that were accused of committed the offenses. USBA Season Set To Begin May 6, 2009

The United States Basketball Association has announced a couple of changes in their schedule for the 2009 season. We will be shortening the season to 20 games as opposed to 30, and will not be playing the All-Star Game in Atlanta
The United States Basketball Association has announced a couple of changes in their schedule for the 2009 season.

Due to the state of the economy, and a major venue change, the league has decided to scale back its schedule for their inaugural season. We will be shortening the season to 20 games as opposed to 30, and will not be playing the All-Star Game in Atlanta.

According to league president Duane Jenkins, 'Due to the current state of the economy, we feel we must cut back our season to 20 games. The state of today's economy dictates we start our season on May 6^th and end on June 30^th . We will have the championship series in Atlanta and will be sponsored by Lincoln-Mercury. The tournament will be single elimination in format.'

The league has also announced that due to the fact that Morris Brown College is on the verge of bankruptcy, the Atlanta Platinum will be playing their home games at the VW Henderson Gymnasium on the campus of Clark Atlanta University. According to Director of Communications Chris Munson, 'We were informed on Friday March 27^th that Morris Brown College will be unable to host Platinum games due to their financial situation. 'We are thankful to Clark Atlanta for stepping at the last minute to host our games.' When informed of the cancellation of the Atlanta Platinum tryouts on March 21, and 28, Clark Atlanta University's Athletic Department allowed the team to conduct it's tryouts in their gymnasium on March 28, 2009.

'We also had several unexpected coaching changes in four of our team cities, during the pre- season months, we are obligated to give each coach ample preparartion time to field a competitive team' , said Kenneth Green, League Director of Basketball Operations.

The league staff met on Sunday March 29, 2009. The outcome of this meeting dictated that the USBA and the teams would be best served making the schedule adjustments. 'Losing Morris Brown College at the last minute took me by surprise, we fully intended to assist the college in it's efforts to financally resurect itself, now that their problems have escalated to the point of what may be no return, we can only feel this may be the end of this fine institution', said Jenkins. ' We are going to do this right, even if it means reducing the season to just 20 games for each team'

United States Basketball Association 2009 Tryouts A Complete Success

Atlanta, Ga., U.S.A (March 31, 2009)---- 'We had over 300 players tryout in ten cities, for our first year, were completely satisfied' said Kenneth Green, USBA Vice President of Basketball Operations. Team tryouts were held each weekend in March, in all USBA team cities, throughout the south. The final tryouts were March 28, 2009. 'We not only had a great turnout from the Montgomery area, we had kids travel from as far away as Atlanta, Georgia to strut their stuff', declared Wilbert Hamilton, Head Coach of the Montgomery Generals. The USBA will begin the inaugural season on April 11, 2009. The mid spring mens professional basketball league is set to field ten teams, split into two divisions. The Atlantic division will house the Richmond Colonials, the Savannah Seahawks, the Jacksonville Admirals, the Columbia Centurions, and the Augusta Raging River. The Appalachian Division consists of the Atlanta Platinum, the Birmingham Crusaders, the Nashville Thunder, the Montgomery Generals and the West Virginia Capitals. ' We originally planned to field fourteen teams in our first year, however a variety of challenges prevented us from completing our initial goals, since we decided to play at small colleges, we ran into scheduling conflicts with some of the venues', said Duane Jenkins, USBA president, 'next year we'll get another chance to secure these additional desired venues'. Each USBA team will play a thirty game schedule, complete with fifteen home and fifteen away.

A Candid Conversation With The USBA

Ten questions with USBA president Duane Jenkins

1) First off, talk a little bit about the evolution of the league and how it came to be.

Well where do I begin? In the spring of 1999, I was assigned to officiate basketball games at the Suwanee Sports Academy in Suwanee, Ga. The United States Basketball League (USBL) had a team there called the Atlanta Trojans. The owner of the Academy, Paul Kinney approached me to help garner sponsorships for the team. I was amazed at the popularity of this league. Shortly thereafter I approached the home office of the USBL to inquire about franchise ownership. Originally I wanted to place teams in Savannah and Macon, Ga., however the USBL and I were unable to negotiate a deal.

My interest in basketball remained very high. In the fall of 2005 I replied to an advertisement placed by the World Basketball Association (WBA). I meet with the two principle owners and they invited me to sit in on an owners meeting. I was so impressed that I signed an agreement to create advertising and sponsorship products for four of their teams. Due to some problems with the league and a legal battle that took place, I decided to withdraw myself from the league. At that time Ed Krinsky then the Director of Operations was being attacked by the WBA, Ed and I began to talk about creating franchises for the Southeast United States. I began to write, what I thought to be proper league procedure. I convinced three of my clients to purchase franchises in the USBL: Savannah, GA; Macon, GA; and Nashville, TN. We then started up the USBA on July 7, 2007.

2) All ten of your teams are in the southeast region of the US; why this particular region?

First of all I love Georgia, it's a great state that's ripe with opportunities. We believe regional competition will be the key to the success of the USBA. The south is overflowing with great talent. Until we came along, there wasn't a viable league here in the south to display the talent pool of basketball players. When we pit Columbia, SC against Augusta, Georgia, you have two large southern cities within two hours driving time of each other, border war and bragging rights come into play. Every southern city loves to beat Atlanta at anything, so this is perfect for us.

3) You have some big names as far as coaches. Talk about some of those big names and how you were able to recruit them to work with the USBA.

I'm astonished at the ability to attract the type of men and women to lead our teams. In Montgomery we have Mr. Wilbert Hamilton and Mr. Vincent Royal, these two gentlemen are legends in the State of Alabama and are known nationally. In Nashville we have Oliver Lee, a man who was highly recruited out of high school by the late great Al McGuire, and was Doc Rivers roommate at Marquette University. Jeff Hill, Head Coach of Birmingham Crusaders enlisted Connie Morris as his assistant, she can out play most men. I could talk about our coaches all day.

We've been fortunate to have attracted people who not only have a rock solid background in the game but are respected people in their communities. With the great coaching talent we've amassed for our teams, we think we have the opportunity to field great players. The final component that is needed for a great game is the quality of the referee. The USBA is extremely fortunate to have acquired the services of Simmie Lavender as our Supervisor of Officials. You can rest assure that with Mr. Lavender in charge, we now have top flight officials with extensive NCAA and D-league experience.

4) You are marketing your teams to churches in each area. Talk a bit about the philosophy behind that part of your marketing plan.

We have a vested interest in our team communities and I believe the single best way to positively reach the young people is through the schools and the churches. We have set up a revenue sharing program with the universities and colleges in the cities in which we play. The schools in our team cities and the church groups assist in programs that will directly assist in the educational and cultural development of our children in these communities.

5) One of the goals of the league is to promote community service and working with inner city kids. Talk about some of the things the league will do in those areas to fulfill these goals.

First and foremost our players and coaches will be active in the community. Each game will have two pre-games where four churches or schools will be invited to play a game before the main game. We have provided the schools and the churches with guest passes so the rest of the children can attend the game for free. Our USBA Youth Outreach programs will provide a variety of programs to each community to hopefully help them with some of the challenges facing our young people. Our programs are available to all families in our cities. The goal of the USBA is not just to give basketball players the chance to advance their careers, we will do that, but we will use the game of basketball to establish a very aggressive social agenda to do the best we can to help where ever we can.

6) Over the past few years, the minor leagues have gotten a bad rap. What will the USBA do that is different from other leagues?

There is only one official basketball minor league in the United States, the National Basketball Association Development League (NBADL). The leagues on our level traditionally have not been good stewards of the game of basketball. We recognize our place in the pecking order. We will never make any claims to falsely tell a player we can get him a job in the NBA, the D-League or in Europe. We will tell our players that they will be paid for the services and if you work hard enough, the possibilities of someone approaching them to advance is good. We will try and steer our kids back to college to complete their education, as we believe a college education is a necessity in today's time. If they move up, well that's great. Our league is designed to aid develop young players in the careers on and off the court.

7) The minors tend to come up with quirky rules such as the ABA's '3-D' rule. Can we expect to see any of those in the USBA?

We play by NBA rules, period, with the exception of our fines. We've adjusted the fines to reflect our pay scale. Our basketballs are the Spaulding TF-1000. The integrity of the game is paramount and must be protected.

8) What are the standards you expect USBA players to live by both on and off the court?

As my grandfather said, I have zero tolerance for monkey business. The players and coaches agreements state that if anyone is convicted in as much as misdemeanor, they will be terminated from the league. I want them out of the night clubs and into the books. We play at colleges and universities, our personnel will be model citizens or they will be gone, it's as simple as that. Fighting, cursing, or blatant disrespect for the officials is also cause for termination for the league, not suspension, termination. Our fan base will see good kids play top quality basketball and we will keep our league as clean as possible.

9) Your first season of play is just under a month away. Talk about some of the challenges you have faced leading up to opening night.

The list is long and arduous, We are working hard to be ready and with the leagues commitment, all should go well.

10) When fans get to the arenas, what can they expect as far as level of play?

We have had great attendance at our tryouts. I have been told by our coaches that they are not surprised by the talent thus far. With a spring league, we have been able to get players from all over the United States and some International leagues. Keep in mind we are a single A division minor basketball league, however we will get a lot of super talent.

Each game will be very entertaining. We have set in place halftime promotions as well as top quality entertainment for the fans. I'm extremely excited. We selected these communities because the interest in basketball is extremely vibrant. The folks in our towns have shared their support of our league, our teams and our civic programs. With our commitment to assist them in the community we believe this will be the start of a beautiful relationship.

Each game will have two 'pre-games' where four churches or schools will be invited to play a game before the main game.

8) What are the standards you expect USBA players to live by both on and off the court?

As my grandfather said, I have zero tolerance for monkey business. The players and coaches agreements state that if anyone is convicted in as much as misdemeanor, they will be terminated from the league. I want them out of the night clubs and into the books. We play at colleges and universities, our personnel will be model citizens or they will be gone, it's as simple as that. Fighting, cursing, or blatant disrespect for the officials is also cause for termination for the league, not suspension, termination. Our fan base will see good kids play top quality basketball and we will keep our league as clean as possible

9) Your first season of play is just under a month away. Talk about some of the challenges you have faced leading up to opening night.

The list is long and arduous, We are working hard to be ready and with the leagues commitment, all should go well.

The USBA is Alive and Well

There have been rumors flying on the US Basket message boards that the USBA has folded or is in trouble. I am here to say those reports are unfounded and simply are not true.

Over the weekend, we had a very well attended series of tryouts in our member cities. These tryouts were attended by former NCAA Division I and II players, and players who have extensive experience playing both domestically and on the international levels.

The overall response from players has been that they are happy there is a spring domestic league. Yes, there are opportunities overseas, in Latin America, etc, but there has not been a viable option for players to play in the United States. The USBA is that option and we hope it will be a successful first season.

USBA Player Tryouts Start This Weekend

Atlanta, Ga., U.S.A.(March 4, 2009)----The United States Basketball Association (USBA) will begin team tryouts for it's 2009 basketball season this weekend. ' We're not looking for the next high flying Michael Jordan nor do we require the keen eye of a Larry Bird, however we are looking for young men who know how to play and most importantly who are coachable. We'll look to recruit players who have the right attitude and great personal pride' said USBA Vice President of Basketball Operation Ken Green. Green is from Atlanta and played his college hoops at Pan American University. He was selected in the first round by the Denver Nuggets in the 1981 NBA draft. ' Our teams will be largely comprised of players who are attempting to rise to the D-league or they are trying to secure a position on an International team. With a spring schedule, our tryouts could be overrun with quality players, who want to start or continue their careers' said Mr. Green.

The United States Basketball Association is a men's minor division professional basketball league. The league began operations in July 2007 with eleven teams split into two divisions. The Atlantic houses the Jacksonville Admirals, the Savannah Seahawks, the Richmond Colonials, the Charlotte Blue Wave, the Augusta Raging River and the Columbia Centurion, the second division is called the Appalachian, it consist of the Nashville Thunder, the Birmingham Crusaders, the Montgomery Generals, the Chattanooga Royal, the Atlanta Platinum and the West Virginia Capitals. According to the league a players will be permitted to attend each tryout. The fee for the try out is $75.00 for all three dates. ' You know basketball, one day you score 40 points, grab 19 rebounds and send 5 shots into the stands, the next day you own a cement factory and you're delivering bricks' chuckled Coach Green. 'For one fee our prospects can attend all three camps or go to three different cities and try out for different teams for one fee. The close proximity of our team locations will make this new approach possible' Green explained. 'I will say this, the players better be in shape, we're expecting a good turnout in all our cities'.
